The City of Rehoboth Beach water department serves about 6,000 residential and commercial customers both within the City of Rehoboth Beach and outside the city limits. The city's water department maintains water system infrastructure and ensures delivery of safe, clean water to customers.
In the event that water service must be interrupted due to maintenance or repairs, residents will be notified, if possible, via a letter or door hanger before work begins. Once water service is restored, it’s recommended that homes run cold water for a few minutes from a bathtub or other fixture without an aerator to ensure that water is clear and that any air is released from water lines.

Cross-connection control program
Recent state legislation requires that the city's water department establish a cross-connection control program and that many water customers, both commercial and residential, have their cross-connections and backflow preventers inspected annually by certified testers - at the customer's expense. The City of Rehoboth Beach will implement its cross-connection control program in 2024, focusing on commercial customers and residential customers who have been deemed a high hazard due to the presence of an irrigation system, swimming pool, or other potential backflow hazard.
The ultimate goal of the program is to ensure safe drinking water for everyone. The city is working with HydroCorp to implement its cross-connection control program. Lead and Copper Rule improvements
