Conducting City Business Remotely

On March 17, 2020, the City of Rehoboth Beach closed all public buildings to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus. 

City staff is continuing to work and assist the public but the buildings will not be open for in-person business.

How to Conduct Business Without Coming to City Facilities

Current Service Levels by Department

Commission/Committee Meetings

  • The City of Rehoboth Beach is suspending all public commission and committee meetings until further notice as a precaution due to coronavirus. For meeting agendas and minutes, please visit cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net/Portal/. For further information, please call 302-227-6181 or email [email protected].

FOIA Requests

  • FOIA requests will be forwarded to the relevant City of Rehoboth Beach department(s) to locate the public records you seek and determine any costs associated with satisfying your request. Be advised, processing of records requests during the COVID-19 crisis may be significantly delayed, based on staffing availability and operational needs, as permitted by Delaware Gov. John C. Carney’s amended State of Emergency of March 22, 2020. As it pertains to FOIA, response deadlines for public bodies are extended to within 15 business days following the termination of any active declaration of a State of Emergency. During this time, the City of Rehoboth Beach will make every effort to respond to requests as soon as it is reasonably possible about the availability of records, a cost estimate (if applicable) and request confirmation to proceed (if necessary).

Building & Licensing Department

  • All minor permits (fences, interior renovations, etc.) can be dropped off in the dropbox in front of City Hall or in the police department lobby.
  • Inspections are still being performed as scheduled. A contractor or homeowner will need to be present for the inspection but please limit the number of people on-site during the inspection.

Police Department

  • The Rehoboth Beach Police Department is continuing to respond to calls for service. Please contact non-emergency police dispatch at 302-227-2577 and in the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Public Works

  • City of Rehoboth Beach Public Works, Water, and Wastewater crews will continue to operate and will be available to respond to service calls. Contact non-emergency police dispatch at 302-227-2577 for after-hours utility emergencies. In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Parking Permits 

PARKING METERS & PERMITS IN EFFECT STARTING SATURDAY, MAY 30, 2020

Resident Free Parking Permits:

  • Please return your application with a copy of your current registration for non-transferable permits through the mail or dropbox in front of City Hall. Your permits will be mailed to you. 
  • Residents that need to purchase additional transferable permits can note on their application how many you would like to purchase. Please include payment ($250.00 per hangtag) with your application via mail or dropbox in front of City Hall. Your hangtags will be mailed to you.

Visitor and Business Parking Permits:

  • Visitors and Businesses can purchase transferable and non-transferable parking permits starting April 1, 2020, by filling out a

  • Businesses are eligible for one free transferable parking permit with a valid business license and should contact the Building & Licensing Department at 302-227-6181 ext. 222. Additional permits may be purchased through the Parking Department.

Scooter Parking Permits:

  • Anyone interested in purchasing scooter parking permits starting April 1, 2020, can fill out the

Utility Billing

  • Water bills will be sent in early April and due in early May.
  • Rehoboth Beach residents are encouraged to use the City's Citizen Self-Service Portal for making utility billing payments. Payments may also be made by mail and the dropbox located in front of City Hall.
  • Water bill issues, turning on/off water and inspections will be addressed by the Water Department on a scaled-back level due to limited staff. We will work to resolve issues as quickly as possible.

New Rental License

  • For a new rental license, please contact City Hall at 302-227-6181 ext. 110. An application will be emailed to you with the payment amount due. 
  • Please return the application with payment via mail or the dropbox in front of City Hall.
  • Once the rental license is paid, the homeowner can contact the Building & Licensing Department at 302-227-6181 ext. 222 to schedule a rental inspection.

  • Payment for yard waste containers can be made by credit card over the phone.

  • The upcoming City election on August 8, 2020, is on schedule and all deadlines are still in effect.
