The Planning Commission is leading the City of Rehoboth Beach's efforts to update its Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP). Mandated by the state, the CDP outlines the city's goals and policies regarding future growth and management of resources. It is a broad, aspirational document that outlines the community's goals and vision, especially as related to land use, and it serves as a guide for future decision-making. The CDP considers a range of topics and their relationships to one another; topics may include housing, the environment, economic development, historic preservation, recreation, and transportation.
Wallace Montgomery, a planning and engineering firm that serves the mid-Atlantic region, has been hired to assist the city in completing this update, which was begun in December 2018. The project has been delayed due to the impact of covid and a range of other factors. The updated CDP is expected to be submitted to the state for review February 1, 2022 and must be finalized and adopted by the Board of Commissioners by July 2022.
