This is an important message regarding Hurricane Dorian. This intense hurricane, now downgraded to a category 1, is making its way up the coast from North Carolina. We will be seeing the effects all day and into late-night Friday. The forecast is for the potential of 1-3” of rain, an onshore flow that may create some minor tidal flooding and winds gusting over 25 mph primarily Friday evening. The direction and strength of the wind will determine any amount of coastal flooding and beach erosion.
City crews have been working throughout the week to remove benches, lifeguard stands, beach shacks and trash receptacles from the beach and Boardwalk. They have also been cleaning out storm drains throughout the City and will continue to do so. Streets Department staff will be working throughout the night into early Saturday to tend to downed tree limbs and other debris that may potentially cause hazardous roadway conditions.
We are consistently monitoring state and local broadcasts related to Dorian and it remains important for you to continue to monitor the forecast and local conditions through television, radio and Internet resources.
