Rehoboth’s Janis earns commercial building inspector certification

Jan 30, 2019

Matt Janis, Assistant Building Inspector for the City of Rehoboth Beach, has received certification as a commercial building inspector and building plans examiner through the International Code Council (ICC). The ICC is a member-focused association with over 64,000 members. It is dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, building and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. With these certifications, Janis is responsible for performing inspections to structures to determine compliance with various building codes and standards adopted by the City along with reviewing submitted plans. At this level of certification, Janis can inspect commercial structures of any size or occupancy. Although Janis had three years to complete these certifications, he achieved certifications in just one year. “Working toward and earning professional certification in one’s field of work shows the commitment of staff to ensure they are performing at the highest levels,” said Sharon Lynn, City Manager. “We congratulate Matt on his achievement. We are fortunate to have Matt on our staff. He is dedicated not only to his fellow employees but to our community as well.” Janis is currently working towards a building official certification.
