At Delmarva Power, we are committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable service for our customers and communities. With winter approaching, we encourage you and your community to be ready for the severe weather winter can sometimes bring. Each day, we are performing essential work to prepare the local energy grid to keep homes and businesses warm and bright this winter. This work includes:
- Inspecting existing infrastructure and upgrading equipment.
- Installing smart technology that can automatically restore service more quickly or isolate damage.
- Trimming trees that could potentially impact the system.
We invest hundreds of millions of dollars each year modernizing the local energy grid, which has resulted in the most reliable service in the company’s history in recent years. In fact, because of these important investments, our customers in Delaware and Maryland have experienced a 30-35 percent decrease in the frequency of service interruptions over the last five years. Our preparation efforts also include conducting drills and coordinating closely with government and community partners to ensure we are ready to respond safely and quickly when our customers need us. We also participate in collaborative emergency response exercises with our Exelon sister companies – Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, PECO and Pepco – to ensure we can provide seamless support during a storm. During the winter storms last March, this coordination allowed crews from ComEd to quickly respond and support power restoration efforts in the hardest hit parts of the East Coast.
Being prepared is a responsibility everyone should take seriously. Help us spread the word about emergency preparedness in your communities by encouraging your constituents to assemble an emergency storm kit and prepare a plan for what do during a power outage or winter storm. Encourage residents to visit delmarva.com/mobileapp to download our mobile app, which has many resources to keep customers informed during a storm. More tips, resources and safety information are available at www.delmarva.com/storm.
If a severe storm hits, monitor local weather reports regularly and follow the advice of local emergency management officials. Know that we follow a strategic response to restore service to the greatest number of customers first and will work to restore your service as quickly and safely as possible. Customers are asked to immediately report a downed wire or service issue by calling 1-800-898-8042, visiting www.delmarva.com or through our mobile app.
By preparing together now, we can be ready for whatever winter may bring.
