National Prescription Take-Back Initiative

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department announces the return of the collaborative effort with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), state and local law enforcement, to support the National Prescription Take-Back Initiative. The National Take-Back Initiative provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The program also provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.

The next take-back is scheduled for Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the lobby of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, 229 Rehoboth Avenue. The collection is quick, convenient, and secure – supervised by law enforcement. The collection is free and open to the public, no appointments are necessary. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container, crossing out personal information, or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. This program is anonymous, and no questions or requests for identification will be made. No effort will be made to count, inventory, or log medications.
