City of Rehoboth Beach Closed Jan. 5

Jan 05, 2018

Due to the continuing effects of the major winter storm and the level 2 driving restriction, the City of Rehoboth Beach will again be closed Friday, January 5, 2018. Non-essential employees are not to report to work today. Essential employees are to report as scheduled.

Governor Carney has not lifted the State of Emergency and Level 2 driving restriction so they remain in effect throughout Sussex County. The Governor has also authorized the Delaware National Guard to assist state and local officials with any necessary response and recovery for this severe winter storm.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until tomorrow, Saturday, at noon. Expect very cold wind chills to range from 5 above zero to 15 below zero. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph overnight last night caused areas of blowing and drifting snow. Although the city’s streets department has been working around the clock and will continue to do so over the weekend, some secondary roadways have been drifted over again, making them impassable. Please be patient and know that the crews are out assisting many residents with emergencies.

Due to the road conditions and Level 2 driving restrictions in Sussex County imposed by the Governor, City Hall is closed today, Friday. No one should be operating a motor vehicle on DE roadways except for persons designated as emergency workers, public utility personnel, healthcare providers or those operating public and private snow removal equipment.

It is strongly advisable for motorists to stay off the roads in order for the streets department staff to best operate the snowplows and to make roadways passable.

Should you experience a power outage Delmarva Power is committed to an emergency response system that makes safety a priority and restores power as quickly as possible.  Customers can report outages and downed wires by calling 800-898-8042.

The city will continue to communicate as best as possible to provide updated weather conditions and all safety concerns to residents. Please regularly check the city’s website and Facebook page facebook.com/City-of-Rehoboth-Beach-Delaware for updated information. Please call the Rehoboth Beach Police Department by dialing 9-1-1 for emergencies or 302-227-2577 for information.
