Commissioners to discuss voting rights for LLCs & gross receipts rental tax increase Nov. 6

Nov 02, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Commissioners will be discussing at their workshop meeting Monday, November 6, a charter change that would give limited liability companies, LLCs, voting rights during municipal elections

. Two changes under discussion will be to allow property owners who own their property in an LLC to vote. The second change is eliminating the requirement to remove from voter rolls anyone who hasn't voted in two consecutive municipal elections. The city allows non-residents who own their property in revocable trusts to vote. The discussion now is allowing non-residents who own their property in an LLC to vote as well. Restrictions would be that the property owner would have to own at least 50 percent of the entity that owns 100 percent of the property.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of a gross receipts rental tax increase from 3 percent to 6 percent. In response to the many comments and concerns the city has received concerning the structure and agenda of meetings, there will be a discussion on the policies and procedures of Commissioner Meetings
