Bill Ashley has begun his duties as the new assistant building inspector for the City of Rehoboth Beach. Ashley was hired the beginning of September and replaces Steve Kordek, who is retiring at the end of the year. Ashley is a Delaware native and grew up in Dover. Experience in construction first interested Ashley years ago, he began his career as a draftsman. From there he transitioned from design work to code enforcement work in 2006. He has worked for Kent County and the City of Rock Hill, South Carolina, as a plans reviewer. Most recently, Ashley worked as a building inspector with AECOM, a global engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction, and management services to a wide range of clients. Along with being ICC certified as a residential and commercial building inspector, he is certified as a plumbing plans and mechanical plans examiner. Ashley is looking forward to reviewing residential and commercial plans and serving as a technical assistant to Chief Building Inspector Damalier Molina. “I’m excited to work with residents, builders, design and real estate professionals for compliance with requisite laws and codes,” he said. City Manager Sharon Lynn said, “Bill has a work history of progressively responsible work with a concentration in the residential and commercial construction fields. He has worked on all sides of the desk as a worker, designer, and inspector. He has a track record of working well with management, staff and the public.” She added that Ashley would play a key role in providing and implementing high-quality inspections for the city. Ashley resides in Milford with his wife and four children. The Building & Licensing Department is currently located at 306 Rehoboth Avenue. The department will be closed the week of September 18-22 to move into their offices located on the second floor in new City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Avenue.
