A swimming advisory is in effect at Rehoboth Avenue due to elevated bacteria levels in the water according to DNREC.
Water samples have been collected and the advisory will be lifted when bacteria levels return to normal.
Bacteria levels tend to elevate when there is excessive rain, pushing wildlife scat or domestic pet waste into waterways. Sometimes, the elevation is caused by runoff of waste from shorebirds and marine mammals, the agency said.
