The City awarded a $256,000 bid to contractor Mumford and Miller for repairs to the substructure of the Boardwalk from the Henlopen Hotel to Grenoble Place. The north end of the Boardwalk sustained heavy wave-action damage during a January 2016 nor’easter, when the decking was lifted off the support structure. While the City quickly made temporary fixes so the Boardwalk was usable for the summer, permanent fixes were needed. The decking will be removed and the damaged support structure will be replaced, matching the original template.
Because Rehoboth Beach was declared a disaster area after the January 2016 storm, the City is eligible for 75 percent funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Work is expected to begin at the end of February and be finished by April.
