To make way for a new Rehoboth Beach City Hall, demolition of the existing City Hall began on Monday, February 1, 2016, and will continue for approximately three weeks. The demolition is the first significant phase in the overall plan to build the new City Hall complex, which will provide a major upgrade in the facilities necessary to better serve the community now and well into the future. Demolition is scheduled to continue through February. Construction of the new City Hall building will begin in March and is scheduled to continue for 14 months. City staff has already moved into temporary offices on the site, and all City services continue to operate as usual during the project. When complete in early 2017, this project will help consolidate the majority of the city administrative services in one facility. In addition, the Convention Center will receive several updates, including upgraded restroom facilities, and a new entrance providing more visibility to the general public and easier access for walking and vehicle-based visitors. After years of design and planning for a new facility, Rehoboth Beach property owners elected this Summer to fund the $18.5 million project. The current City Hall has served as home to the municipal operations and Police Department since 1964, and while these aging facilities have been renovated several times, the numerous deficiencies have increasingly hampered City operations, increased maintenance costs, and negatively impacted our residents and visitors.

Additional construction updates will be provided regularly by City Manager, Sharon Lynn.
