911 Dispatch

The Rehoboth Beach 911 Center operates 24 hours a day seven days a week and is staffed by eight full-time dispatchers and one center manager. Our public safety telecommunicators are responsible for answering all 911 and non-emergency calls to the City of Rehoboth Beach and surrounding area. Residents and visitors to Rehoboth Beach are provided quick access to emergency services.

Our mission is to act as a vital and critical link between local public safety agencies and the citizens that they protect and serve. We strive to ensure preservation of life and property by treating all who use our services with professionalism, courtesy, and compassion and by relaying accurate information in a timely and efficient manner. Our communications center provides 911 emergency call-taking, dispatching, and centralized communication services to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, and Rehoboth Beach Fire Department, including for emergency medical services. 

The Rehoboth 9-1-1 Center is a nationally accredited emergency medical dispatch center. 

Accreditation

Accreditation is certified by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. Accredited Centers share a common goal of improving public care and maximizing the efficiency of 911 systems. The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch, through its College of Fellows, has established a high standard of excellence for emergency dispatch and trains dispatchers how to provide callers with lifesaving instructions. The center is equipped with the latest technology in order to maintain quality service. The main components include enhanced 911, emergency medical dispatch and telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD).

• When should I call 9-1-1?

  Answer: Call 9-1-1 in case of

  • any life-threatening situation
  • in progress criminal activity
  • urgent medical help required
  • road accidents
  • serious personal injury
  • fire

• Do Not Call 9-1-1:

  • to ask for information
  • power outages – call your local power company
  • for telephone directory inquires
  • parking tickets
  • to see how traffic is

• Why does 9-1-1 ask so many questions?

  Dispatchers ask the questions in order to determine the appropriate assistance needed. Asking routine questions speeds up getting help where it is needed.

• What if I call 9-1-1 by mistake?

  DO NOT HANG UP.  Stay on the line and let the dispatcher know it was a mistake and that everything is OK.

• Do you allow tours of the 9-1-1 Center?

  Yes, but you must coordinate with the center director.
