A draft of the City of Rehoboth Beach’s 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) is available for public review and comment on the City’s website under the Government/ Current City Projects tab. Residents and stakeholders are asked to use a form available online to submit comments by January 13. This compressed feedback deadline is necessary to ensure that public comments are included in a draft of the CDP that will be submitted to the state for review February 1.
The city began the process of updating its 2010 Comprehensive Development Plan in December 2018. The project has been delayed due to the impact of covid and a range of other factors. The city’s Planning Commission is leading update efforts in consultation with Wallace Montgomery, a planning and engineering firm that serves the mid-Atlantic region.
Mandated by the state, the CDP outlines the city's goals and policies regarding future growth and management of resources. It is a broad, aspirational document that outlines the community's goals and vision, especially as related to land use, and it serves as a guide for future decision-making.
A draft of the CDP will be submitted to the Preliminary Land Use Service division of the Office of State Planning Coordination February 1; state review is expected to take about 60 days. Following state review, the CDP will be finalized by the Planning Commission and forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for consideration and adoption by the state-mandated July 2022 deadline. Additional public hearings will be part of the process moving forward.
