We have just been officially informed that DelDOT Contract T200612501.01 SR 1 - Rehoboth Canal to North of US 9 (Five Points) Pedestrian Improvements will provide sidewalks along SR 1 from North of Five Points to the Rehoboth - Lewes Canal. It will fill in many gaps in the current sidewalk network to allow for a continuous pedestrian corridor. The project will also provide for pedestrian crossings of SR 1 and some additional lighting at several locations along the corridor. The project will also consist of adjusting drainage inlets along SR 1 between SR 24 and Shady Road/Marsh Road and the sidewalk reconstruction along SR 1A (Rehoboth Avenue) within the City of Rehoboth Beach. The project was recommended by the SR 1 Pedestrian Study and will enhance pedestrian safety in the beach area through providing continuous sidewalks and marked, signalized pedestrian crossings as well as additional lighting improvements. The first phase of construction shall consist of adjusting drainage inlets along SR 1 between SR 24 and Shady Road/Marsh Road and the sidewalk reconstruction along SR 1A (Rehoboth Avenue) within the City of Rehoboth Beach (in the vicinity of the roundabout). This work is anticipated to be completed on or around the end of October. The Department has issued the Contractor a limited Notice to Proceed to only perform saw cutting activities on SR 1A from Grove Street to Canal Street the week of September 22, 2014 to September 26, 2014. The Contractor has supplied the Department with the following 3-Week look ahead schedule: The week of September 29, 2014 to October 3, 2014 it is anticipated that the Contractor will begin the drainage inlet adjustments on SR 1 as well as the sidewalk reconstruction along Westbound and Eastbound SR 1A from Grove Street to Canal Street. The week of October 6, 2014 to October 10, 2014 it is anticipated that the Contractor will continue the drainage inlet adjustments on SR 1 as well begin the sidewalk reconstruction on Eastbound SR 1A from State Road to Grove Street. The week of October 13, 2014 to October 17, 2014 it is anticipated that the Contractor will continue the drainage inlet adjustments on SR 1 as well begin the sidewalk reconstruction on Westbound SR 1A from 5th Street to Columbia Avenue.
