The Rehoboth Beach Police Department recognized officers and employees during its annual awards banquet April 12. The banquet, which took place at The Greene Turtle in Rehoboth, was attended by personnel and their families, including city and state officials and friends of the department. “The awards ceremony is to recognize the dedication and impressive achievements of employees and the department’s community and business partners,” said Chief Keith Banks. “Although all members of the department are hard-working individuals who are committed to providing excellent service dedicated to their community, each year’s honorees – both nominees and award recipients – are deserving of special recognition as they went above and beyond the call of duty to serve the citizens of Rehoboth Beach.”
Detective Tyler Whitman was named 2017 Officer of the Year, and Dispatcher Ryan Buff received the 2017 Civilian Employee of the Year during the ceremony. Both were nominated for the award by the administrative staff. “Tyler is very deserving of this award,” said Lt. Will Sullivan. “He is being recognized for his hard work, investigative skills and his dedication to keeping the public safe.” Buff’s supervisor Tammy Ketterman said, “Ryan’s exceptional dedication and service to the department and the community makes him so deserving of this award.
