Rehoboth Beach to continue valet trash service

Apr 29, 2017

On April 21, 2017, the Rehoboth Beach Commissioners approved opening the valet trash service to all residential property owners. The service was established as a one-year pilot program that began June 1, 2016, in response to the Commissioners adopting on April 4, 2016, Ordinance No. 0416-02 that amended Chapter 227 of the Solid Waste section of the Municipal Code. Specifically, that waste containers must not be put out earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day before collection and removed from the curb not later than 9 p.m. on collection day. The pilot program has been successful. After comparing costs and services offered by private valet trash companies, the Commissioners decided the city would continue to offer the valet trash service as an option for residents.

The city's valet trash service is an additional $300 per year above the standard base trash service fee of $275 per year for full-time residents or $250 per year for part-time residents. Participants in the program will be required to purchase a minimum of one 95 gallon trash container for a one-time fee of $50 per container. The valet container must hold only household trash and be placed in a location predetermined by the city. Recycling and yard waste containers will not be picked up as part of the city's valet trash service.

The city will be mailing to all residential property owners information about enrolling in the valet trash service. The deadline for enrollment will be May 31, 2017, for the next annual billing cycle of July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018. For questions, please contact the City of Rehoboth Beach Administrative Office at 302-227-6181 (option 2) or [email protected].
