Public Notice of Annual Municipal Election to be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Saving Time in Rehoboth Beach Fire Department in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
NOTICE is hereby given to all qualified electors of the City of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, that the Annual Municipal Election will be held in said City on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Saving Time, in the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department located at 219 Rehoboth Avenue in the City of Rehoboth Beach.
There are three (3) Candidates running for Commissioner in the August 12, 2017 Election. The Candidates are: Susan M. Gay, Kathleen K. McGuiness and Lisa A. Schlosser. At said Annual Municipal Election, two (2) Commissioners shall be elected. The term of office for the two (2) persons receiving the highest number of votes for Commissioner, shall be for a term of three (3) years.
There are (2) Candidates running for Commissioner with the title of Mayor. The Candidates are: Samuel R. Cooper and Paul G. Kuhns. At said Annual Election, one (1) Commissioner with the title of Mayor shall be elected. The term of office for that person, shall be for a term of three (3) years.
At said Annual Municipal Election, every person, male or female, who shall have attained the age of eighteen (18) years on the date of the Election, and who is a freeholder, leaseholder, in the City of Rehoboth Beach, or if the property is in a TRUST and the proper paperwork is on file with the City, whether or not a resident of the State of Delaware or of the City of Rehoboth Beach, and also every person male or female, who shall have attained the age of eighteen (18) years on the date of the election, and who shall be a bona fide resident of the State of Delaware, and the City of Rehoboth Beach, shall have one (1) vote, provided he or she has registered and is on the Books of Registered Voters of the City of Rehoboth Beach.
All votes shall be offered in person, or by absentee ballot. If an elector cannot appear at the regular polling place the day of the election, he/she may appear in City Hall, or contact City Hall and request an affidavit to be mailed. Affidavits may also be obtained from the City's website (www.cityofrehoboth.com). The written affidavit must be filed no later than 12:00 noon August 11, 2017. After approval of the affidavit, an absentee ballot will be given to/mailed to you. The last day for the City to mail Ballots is Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Ballots can be picked up at City Hall after this date. Absentee Ballots must be received before the polls close on the day of the Election. No voter shall vote for more candidates than there are offices to be filled at the election. Voting machines will be used. For the purpose of voting, a leaseholder shall be deemed to mean any person holding land under a valid lease either in his/her own name or who is the owner of an undivided interest in a leasehold with his/her spouse for an original term of not less than ten (10) years who lease is recorded in the office of the Recorder of Deeds in and for Sussex County, and who is the owner of an improvement of at least One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
