Matthew Janis earns residential building inspector certification

May 23, 2018

Matthew Janis, Assistant Building Inspector for the City of Rehoboth Beach, recently received certification as a residential building inspector. Janis received certification through the International Code Council (ICC). This certification ensures compliance with city building and maintenance codes for residential properties. This is accomplished by conducting field inspections and verifying compliance with codes. Other responsibilities include maintaining records, researching methods and codes, interacting with contractors and other departments, providing departmental support and interfacing with other city employees and citizens. Janis said this new certification enables him to do inspections independently. “When this inspection is done by Matthew who is trained in the field for this type of work, it brings value to the project. Permit inspections help protect your family by ensuring the project is done safely and correctly. It can also save you money by catching errors to make sure the project is done right the first time,” said City Manager Sharon Lynn. “We are all very proud of Matthew and his accomplishment with this certification.” Janis is underway working towards certification for residential plumbing inspector and commercial building inspector.
