The Lewes Polar Bear Plunge, held annually on the first Sunday in February, has developed into a truly unique Delaware happening and is Special Olympics Delaware’s most significant fundraiser. Individuals, including many Special Olympics athletes and their family members, take the plunge into the icy Atlantic Ocean during the height of winter!

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 31
9 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Check-in/day-of Registration for Plunge and Run to the Plunge at Special Olympics office in Newark (619 S. College Ave.) Pick up a friend's Plunge and/or 5K Run packet by bringing their signed waiver form.
FRIDAY, FEB. 2
5 to 8 p.m.: Check-in/day-of registration opens for Plunge and Run to Plunge at Atlantic Sands Hotel. (Pick up a friend's packet by bringing their signed waiver form.) Bears begin arriving and the majority of supporting restaurants and retailers begin offering discounts. Note: Bears must have their wrist-bands (received at onsite registration) to receive the discount.
SATURDAY, FEB. 3
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Jolley Trolley rides up and down Rehoboth Avenue.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Sand sculpting on beach just south of Rehoboth Avenue.
Noon to 3 p.m.: Fire & Ice at the Rehoboth Fire Hall.
1 p.m.: 5K Run to the Plunge on Boardwalk at Rehoboth Avenue (registration/check-in opens at 11 a.m.).
2:30 to 5 p.m.: Restaurant Chili Tasting Contest.
4 to 7 p.m.: Check-in/day-of registration for Plunge open at Atlantic Sands Hotel (Pick up a friend's packet by bringing their signed waiver form).
SUNDAY, FEB. 4
10 a.m.: Check-in/day-of registration opens under the tent on Rehoboth Avenue.
9 to 11 a.m.: Ice Sculpting demonstration.
1 p.m.: Lewes Polar Bear Plunge.
Note: No Après Plunge Party this year due to the Convention Center being under construction. We'll see you at the Après Plunge Party in 2019!
