The nor'easter is off of the coast of NJ and will be slowly intensifying during the remainder of the day today, but mostly into Friday evening and Saturday morning. The storm is still expected to be a minimal rain event, but the particular hazards are very high winds and potential coastal flooding. There is a high wind warning throughout the day on Saturday. For the remainder of the day and tonight, expect sustained winds at 30-45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph especially along the coast. The storm is a bit unusual as winds from the NW will change to a northerly direction and then NW again, bringing noticeably calmer periods but still very breezy. Again, the winds are expected to be the worst this evening and into Saturday morning. Sunday conditions will be much improved.
Coastal flooding remains an issue especially overnight Friday, with much higher than usual tides expected Saturday morning. City crews will be working throughout the remainder of the day and into Saturday. Sporadic power outages could be an issue, however, Delmarva Power is committed to an emergency response system that makes safety a priority and restores power as quickly as possible. Please report outages and downed wires at 1-800-898-8042. It is important to continue to monitor the forecast and local conditions through television, radio and Internet resources. Please call the Rehoboth Beach Police Department by dialing 9-1-1 for emergencies or 302-227-2577 for information.
Thank you.
