Annual Paving Program

Jul 25, 2018

The Annual Paving Program protects the City’s investment in the street infrastructure by maintaining and repairing City streets. Studies show that maintaining streets is five times more cost-effective than re-building them after they have failed. Since there may be more roadway needing attention than available funding, the Annual Paving Program is designed to include and prioritize the roadway sections to have the most long-term benefit to the City. The City of Rehoboth Beach routinely inspects the roads within the City before deciding when and what type of maintenance is needed. We look for common surface deficiencies such as generally deteriorated surfaces, cracks, and pavement distortions. We record the observances in a comprehensive database that considers the pavements condition, prior maintenance history, traffic and truck volume, and other factors to help determine the most cost-effective treatment and appropriate time to apply the treatment.

The following locations have been identified for paving from September 2018 to March 2019:

  • Park Avenue from 4th Street to 3rd Street
  • Hickman Street from Stockley Street to Country Club Drive
  • Lee Street from State Road to School Lane
  • 2nd Street from Lake Avenue to Oak Avenue
  • 2nd Street from Oak Avenue to Henlopen Avenue
  • 2nd Street from Rehoboth Avenue to Maryland Avenue

If your street is selected for maintenance, you will be notified by a letter providing the date, duration, and construction activity to be performed, as well as any specific information you might need including roadway parking restrictions or minor access restrictions.
